Review of OldShark HD Dash Camera
If you’ve been browsing Amazon for low priced budget dash cameras that are priced well under $100, you may home come across the full HD dash camera from OldShark. Coming in at around 60 bucks, it has some of the best Amazon user ratings for a dash cam in this price range. What sets this dash cam apart from the cheaper priced ones is that it has a very wide lens angle of 170 degrees and parking mode to detect when there is a crash/impact on your car while you’re away. It also has a fairly wide viewing LCD screen that is 3 inches, while most are only 1.5 inches wide. Below I have gone over some of the features of the OldShark to give you a better idea on whether or not this is the right dash cam for you. Be sure to check out the sample videos at the bottom of the page.

I opened it up to find an instruction manual – which were supplemented with some good instructions that were already emailed to me after purchase, along with the camera itself, a mount for my dashboard, a USB charger with its cable (so you don’t have to switch from the Old Shark to charging your phone), and a card adapter. When I had a quick question about the instructions, their customer service was prompt, courteous, and professional, and I was able to navigate through the menus with ease. The Old Shark dash cam comes with a 32GB microSD card, which will give you over 6.5 hours of video before the camera will start overwriting the oldest video files. It works during both daylight and nighttime road conditions, even recording when there is any motion near your car (parking mode).
With its three inch display and user-friendly interface, it’s really easy to set up the settings exactly how you want them. You can quickly go through the menu options with the toggle buttons – switch from recording your dash cam footage, viewing it on the screen, or fixing your settings. You can set your dash cam up to record in three, five, or ten minute video file segments, which are then stored to your SD Card. Your camera will keep recording, writing over your oldest, unlocked clips first, letting important clips stay until you unlock and delete them.

You never have to worry about waking up to a dead battery before work, as it shuts itself off as soon as it’s done recording, after the engine shuts off – unless you have a rare car with a cigarette lighter that’s always on. Even though it has a builtin battery, the battery is only meant to quickly save a video file once your car is turned off, the car adapter has to stay plugged in in order for the camera to function (this is common on nearly all dash cams on the market). You won’t miss a license plate with its broad point of view – measuring much higher than its competitors at 170 degrees of vision. Zooming in, you’ll be able to see any details as well. Whilst there are some bright lights on the top — flashing red and white, I was able to cover those easily with some electric tape as to not confuse or distract other drivers. When you’re out driving in direct sunlight, there are no major issues with glares in the recordings either. I didn’t struggle to make anything out with grainy features; the video recorded is clear and viable – just in case anything ever happens. It can also give you peace of mind in parking lots when other shoppers could hit your car with their car door or cart. Being able to easily switch off the display with one touch is really helpful at night. During the winter months, the camera doesn’t have any issues with recording or saving the video in any sort of cold weather. I was really impressed that even for this being a more economically priced dash cam, it was still made very well.
If you’re looking for a good quality dash cam priced for less than a $100 in the “budget” dash cam range, whether it be for driving long distances, your delivery job or daily commute, I would recommend Old Shark over many of the other dash cameras in this price range.
